The Studio Repainting Workflow
1. Safe Chemical Stripping & Degreasing
You cannot simply spray fresh paint over an existing figure; doing so fills in micro-recesses, softens eye contours, and causes paint peeling down the road.
We gently soak and clean PVC/ABS parts in dedicated solvent baths that dissolve factory lacquers and oils without warping or softening the plastic.
2. Seam Cleaning & Keyed Disassembly
Wherever possible, factory glue joints are softened and separated. This allows airbrush nozzles to reach inner armpits, neck collars, and cape folds that would otherwise be impossible to shade cleanly on an assembled figure.
3. Lacquer Etch Priming
Raw PVC is naturally oily and flexible. We apply an ultra-fine automotive-grade lacquer etching primer. This microscopic base layer etches into the plastic surface, creating an unbreakable mechanical grip that prevents future paint flaking.
4. Advanced Airbrushing & Stylized Finishes
Depending on your vision, we apply one of several signature studio styles:

Caring for a Custom Repainted Figure
All custom repainted pieces from Custom Figure Studio are sealed with industrial UV-inhibiting polyurethane topcoats. However, because each layer is hand-applied:
- Keep out of direct, unfiltered sunlight: While our UV sealants prevent pigment fading, continuous heat from sun exposure can soften vinyl figure joints.
- Dust with soft makeup brushes: Never use harsh chemical household cleaners or wet rags. A gentle, dry camel-hair or soft synthetic makeup brush removes dust effortlessly without scratching the clear coat.
- Store in enclosed glass displays: An Ikea Detolf, Milsbo, or acrylic case dramatically reduces dust buildup and keeps the finish pristine.
